ESSENTIAL TRAINING SKILLS
Return to Professional Skills Main Page
OVERVIEW

Training is vital to a learning organization and a cornerstone in the improvement process. It imparts the skills and knowledge that people need in order to address business opportunities, solve problems and improve processes. Often employees are asked to train others without being given much understanding of what training is or how to do it well; hence, they are thrust into a difficult situation with little or no chance of being effective or successful. The results derived from staff training are too important to leave to chance. This workshop will equip managers, supervisors and new trainers with essential and practical training skills that will enable them to train with confidence and proficiency. The opportunity to practice these skills in a safe environment will be a key benefit of this training workshop.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
  • Recognize the importance of considering the participants and their training needs, including the different learning styles and adult learning principles
  • Know how to write objectives and evaluate whether these objectives have been met at the end of a training session
  • Develop an effective training style, using the training aids and techniques that are appropriate
  • Understand the importance of an instruction guide to help a trainer prepare and deliver effectively and consistently
  • Conduct a short group training session that incorporates these training concepts
COURSE OUTLINE

Special Note about this course: Come to this workshop with a topic or subject in mind, something you have been asked to do or want to do, as part of "on the job" training. It might even be a topic in which you have done some "training" but you feel you would like to do a better job of it.
During the course, you will refine the objectives of your training, develop a trainingn plan using several tools, discussed in the workshop, and deliver at least 15 minutes of training for your colleagues to observe and give you feedback.
This is a "safe house", not a panel sitting in judgement, so come prepared to give the trainig topic you've selected your best shot.
