This workshop addresses the needs of individuals who investigate harassment complaints. |

LEARNING OBJECTIVES |
|
|
Participants who complete this workshop will:
· Respond to harassment complaints. · Impart the organization's Code of Practice. · Use 7 steps to investigate a claim, including conducting interviews, proscribing corrective action and filing an internal report. · Deal with conflict and communicate effectively to carry out difficult decisions. · Maintain the self-esteem of others during difficult negotiations and settlements. |

COURSE OUTLINE |
|
|
1. Introduction · "Today, Tomorrow, Trends." Acceptable language, attitudes and behaviours in today's workplace. · "Speaking the Unspeakable." This exercise uses self-reflection techniques to demonstrate the sensitivity and challenge of this topic.
2. Principles · "The Investigation: A 7 Step Process." The participant explores the 7 steps, including: · Code of Practice. · Gathering Information about the Complaint. · Investigating the Claim by Interviewing – accused and witnesses. · Judgement – forming an objective opinion based on relevant and documented facts. · Proscribing Corrective Action. · Follow-up – with the accused, the person making the claim, HR and union. · Filing an Internal Report. · "Old Versus New." Comparing previous investigative processes with this one and changing Human Rights Codes. · "Understand Harassment." This video shows real people expressing themselves honestly and passionately, and inspires the participant to do the same. · "Porter Model." Conflict is inevitable with this topic and the participant is prepared for possible scenarios and resolutions. · "Understanding Breeds Acceptance." Both the accused and the person making the complaint are deserving of understanding. The participant will explore the concept of empathy to help identify with both parties and be open to different points of view. · "Do Unto Others..." Maintaining the self-esteem of others during difficult negotiations and settlements.
3. Closure · "Personal Action Plan." A 5-step process to avoid getting into issues with Human Rights Laws. How will you implement this process into your strategy going forward?
